FAN Conversations delivers online discussions with FAN members and industry experts, on a range of topics that are relevant to the cinema exhibition sector in a challenging and changeable climate. The conversations are open to FAN members and the wider film and creative industries sector. Bringing together a panel of representatives from independent cinemas from across the UK, this FAN Conversation looked at some of the stickier questions around anti-racist practice since many statements and policies were published following the resurgence of Black Lives Matter in 2020.

Of those organisations willing to inhabit change, where has their journey taken them and is there tangible progress? Of those looking to change, what is holding them back and how are they overcoming those challenges? As systemic barriers continue to inflict oppression, how will we radically alter these broken models to accelerate change?

The session was chaired by Umulkhayr Mohamed and included guests Isra Al Kassi (T A P E Collective Co-Founder), Tony Bhajam (Inclusion Producer, Watershed), Róise Goan (Artistic Director, Artsadmin, London) and Seonaid Daly.
